KOLKATA,JUNE 01 : At least 86 people were killed and thousands were made homeless in West Bengal by the devasting impact of the super cyclone "Amphan" which was considered even more destructive then the cevere cyclone,"Bulbul" in 2019 and "Aila" in 2009 according to metrological department.
             The landfall of cyclone Amphan sarted near Sagor Island of Sundarban ,clocking a speed of 160  kmph,at about 2.30 pm on May 20,2020 on indian coast and it crossed the West Bengal and Bangladesh coast between Digha,Purba Medinipur and Hatiya Island near Sundarban ,South 24 pgs .For over six hours,the strom raged in all its furry in the coastal areas.The Alipore Weather Office recorded a wind speed of about 112kmph to 133 kmph in Kolkata and its surrounding
              The districts badly hit were South 24pgs, North 24 pgs ,Purba Medinipur ,Paschim Medinipur Howarh, Hugly and Kolkata . 86 people of Sundarban area dided and hundreds of people were injured despite more than 2 lakh people were evacuated from the coastal areas speculating the severity of the strom .Innumberable tress and electric poles were uprooted and wreacked in the strom in the districts including kolkata also resulting in road blockage and darkness through night for many days .The destruction which was unprecedented in recent public memory ,caused thousands of acres to be destroyed.
         "The cyclone had destroyed the two districts of North and South pgs and it was worse than "corona" Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said . Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the area of West Bengal ravaged by the Cyclone and annunced an intial financial assistance of one thousends crore rupees.
